ORAL SURGERY / YORKVILLE + WATERLOO
Evaluation and removal of third molars when position, eruption or disease creates a reason to intervene.
NOT EVERY WISDOM TOOTH NEEDS REMOVAL
Wisdom teeth are the final molars to develop. Some erupt into a healthy, functional position and can be monitored. Others remain impacted, partially erupt or develop disease that makes removal appropriate.
Ashraf Dentistry uses clinical examination and dental imaging to evaluate the tooth position, surrounding bone and nearby anatomy before recommending extraction.
Impaction beneath gum or bone
Repeated inflammation or infection around a partially erupted tooth
Decay that cannot be predictably maintained
Damage or disease affecting the tooth or surrounding structures
Cystic changes or other pathology identified on imaging
BEFORE SURGERY
01
Symptoms, eruption, gum health and access for cleaning are assessed.
02
Imaging helps show tooth angulation, impaction and the relationship to surrounding anatomy.
03
Local anesthesia is used for surgery, with sedation options available when appropriate.

THE EXTRACTION
A fully erupted wisdom tooth may sometimes be removed similarly to another tooth. Impacted teeth can require a surgical approach to access the tooth beneath gum or bone.
The technique is selected according to tooth position and anatomy, with the aim of removing the tooth while preserving surrounding structures as much as possible.
HEALING AFTER EXTRACTION
Aftercare focuses on protecting the surgical site while early healing occurs. Ashraf Dentistry provides individualized instructions for hygiene, eating, activity and follow-up based on the procedure performed.
PRP may also be incorporated into selected extraction sites as part of the surgical healing protocol.

PRESERVING THE SITE
When a tooth is removed from an area that may later receive an implant, the treatment plan may include socket preservation or another bone-grafting procedure to help maintain the ridge.
This is a separate decision from simply removing the tooth and depends on the future restorative plan.
If the extracted tooth is not a wisdom tooth, or if another site is being prepared for future replacement, implant planning and bone preservation can often be considered from the beginning.
WISDOM TOOTH EXTRACTIONS
Schedule a wisdom-tooth assessment to review symptoms, eruption, imaging and the treatment approach appropriate for you.
