REGENERATIVE SURGICAL SUPPORT / YORKVILLE + WATERLOO

Platelet-Rich Plasma
Therapy

Using a concentrated component of your own blood as an adjunct to healing after selected dental procedures.

HEALING STARTS WITH YOUR OWN BIOLOGY

What PRP is.

Platelet-Rich Plasma is prepared from a small sample of the patient’s own blood. Ashraf Dentistry describes an on-site process in which the sample is centrifuged to separate and concentrate a platelet-rich component before it is applied to the surgical area.

Platelets contain signaling proteins involved in normal clotting and tissue-healing pathways. In dentistry, PRP is used as an adjunct around selected surgical sites rather than as a stand-alone replacement for conventional treatment.

The key distinction

PRP is autologous: the material is prepared from the patient’s own blood. The exact role it plays depends on the surgical procedure, tissue being treated and individual healing factors.

WHERE ASHRAF DENTISTRY USES PRP

A regenerative adjunct across oral surgery.

IMPLANTS

Implant Surgery

PRP may be placed around implant-related surgical sites as part of the healing protocol.

GRAFTING

Bone + Sinus Procedures

Ashraf Dentistry lists bone grafts and sinus lifts among the procedures where PRP may be incorporated.

EXTRACTIONS

Surgical Sites

PRP may also be considered in extraction and periodontal surgical sites according to the treatment plan.

THE ON-SITE PROCESS

Collected, concentrated, applied.

The workflow begins with a blood draw. The sample is processed in a centrifuge to separate components and concentrate platelets. The resulting platelet-rich material can then be used at the surgical area during the same treatment visit.

Ashraf Dentistry’s existing PRP page describes the preparation as an in-office process integrated with the underlying dental procedure.

WHAT RESEARCH IS STUDYING

A developing area of regenerative dentistry.

TISSUE

Soft-tissue healing

PRP has been studied for its potential influence on early wound healing and tissue response in surgical settings.

BONE

Bone regeneration

Research has also examined platelet concentrates as adjuncts in bone-grafting and implant-related procedures.

RECOVERY

Post-operative response

Studies have investigated swelling, discomfort and other recovery outcomes, with results varying by preparation method and procedure.

PRP IS AN ADJUNCT

The surgery still does the structural work.

PRP can support a healing environment, but it does not replace appropriate graft materials, surgical technique, implant stability, infection control or post-operative care.

Whether PRP is useful for a particular procedure depends on the treatment being performed, medical history and the clinician’s assessment.

Comfort during surgery

If anxiety or procedure length is a concern, Ashraf Dentistry also offers nitrous oxide and deeper IV sedation options that can be discussed separately from the regenerative plan.

PLATELET-RICH PLASMA THERAPY

Use the body’s own platelets as part of the healing plan.

Ask whether PRP is appropriate as an adjunct to your upcoming implant, grafting, extraction or periodontal procedure.
