SEDATION DENTISTRY / YORKVILLE + WATERLOO

Sedation
Dentistry

Modern options designed to make dental treatment feel calmer, more manageable and more comfortable.

COMFORT IS PART OF CARE

Feeling anxious shouldn’t keep you away from dental care.

Dental anxiety can come from previous experiences, fear of needles, sensitivity to sounds and sensations, a strong gag reflex or simply feeling overwhelmed in the treatment chair.

At Ashraf Dentistry, sedation is selected according to your health, anxiety level, treatment needs and the type of procedure being performed.

TWO LEVELS OF SEDATION

From light relaxation to deeper support.

LIGHT SEDATION

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, commonly called laughing gas, is inhaled through a comfortable nosepiece and typically begins working within minutes.

The level can be adjusted during treatment, making it a useful option for selected patients who need lighter relaxation during their appointment.

DEEPER SEDATION

IV Sedation

For selected patients with greater anxiety or more involved treatment needs, Ashraf Dentistry offers IV sedation under the care of a medical anesthesiologist.

This provides a deeper level of sedation while your vital signs are continuously monitored throughout the procedure.

WHO MAY CONSIDER IV SEDATION?

When a routine appointment doesn’t feel routine.

More significant dental anxiety

For patients who have difficulty tolerating treatment because of fear, anxiety or previous dental experiences.

Lengthy or multiple procedures

Deeper sedation may be considered when a significant amount of treatment is planned during one appointment.

Strong gag reflex or treatment difficulty

For some patients, deeper relaxation can make longer or more involved dental care more manageable.

BEFORE SEDATION

The plan starts before the procedure.

01

Medical review

Your health history, medications and relevant medical considerations are reviewed before sedation is planned.

02

Comfort assessment

We discuss your anxiety, previous experiences and the parts of dental care you find most difficult.

03

Sedation selection

The recommended level is selected based on your needs, procedure and clinical assessment.

SEDATION + SURGICAL DENTISTRY

One appointment can involve more than one layer of care.

Sedation may be incorporated into selected surgical procedures, including extractions, implant treatment and other more involved dental care when appropriate.

The aim is to coordinate the clinical procedure and your comfort plan rather than treating them as separate parts of the visit.

THE CLINICAL ENVIRONMENT

Comfort works alongside technology and monitoring.

Ashraf Dentistry combines sedation options with modern clinical technology and a structured approach to patient safety, including medical review and monitoring appropriate to the level of sedation being used.
